A brief overview

Over the years, I've had the opportunity to work in a wide range of production-related fields - as writer, editor, communications director, presenter and director. On reflection, although the areas are diverse, the commonalities lay in my search to find effective ways of sharing meaningful and compelling information.

Immersive installations & content

I've worked with science centres, museums and corporates to develop innovative, immersive installations that allow people to experience information on emotional and physiological levels. This offers far greater opportunities for absorption and retention than conventional means.

Documentaries

I always try to step away from the comfort of presenting concepts to people that already agree with me. The more emotion that an issue stirs in me, the greater the possibilities of creating an engaging story. If I can explain why I care about something, people are more likely to resonate. I find the biggest challenge today is finding ways to address people with ever-shrinking attention spans in ways that remain true to the subject.

Online channels

I've applied my years of television production experience to create online channels and communities. From the science of thrills, to innovation and technology, to birding, human colony collapse and conservation - creating online channels allows us to develop meaningful conversations which can inspire change.

Conversations

Traveling with the Dalai Lama for a few weeks in 2007 was one of the most memorable periods of my work.  Yet every interview holds the potential to resolve conflict or facilitate positive change in society. Here are just a couple of interviews with fascinating and influential people.

Corporates

I've worked with some of South Africa's top corporates, some of which I would consider moral - others perhaps less so.... Finding and developing projects that offer positive social or environmental outcomes is a key consideration. Corporate work has included: developing communication platforms, stakeholder perception audits, innovative immersive media, and plain old videos.

Education

History and fiction are close relatives, so it's always an adventure researching a new project - especially when the subject is something like the history of science in Islam. I've always enjoyed the challenge of helping to bring life to fascinating subjects that may otherwise pass us by.
